About me
I, Umar Farooq, upon completing my Master’s degree in Urdu from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, am currently pursuing doctoral research at the Centre of Indian Languages, Literature and Cultural Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University—one of the country's premier academic institutions. My PhD dissertation is titled "The Influence of Urdu on the Origin and Evolution of Pahari Language and Literature."
Over the past seven years, I have resided continuously in India's capital, Delhi, to advance my academic endeavours. Throughout this period, I have engaged in extensive scholarly interactions with faculty and students across various universities, alongside key figures in social, political, and literary spheres. This journey provided me with a nuanced perspective on the diverse cultural fabric of the country. Nonetheless, I have consistently harboured a deep concern that the literary heritage and socio-cultural standing of our community remain precarious when juxtaposed with other advanced communities and languages.
Consequent to this realization, a dedicated effort is being initiated under the auspices of the "Pahari Literary Society" to digitize, preserve, and elevate the literary and cultural legacy of our language. This initiative relies on the collaborative dynamic of Pahari poets, writers, researchers, critics, scholars, and students.
